Intermediate Woodturning I: From Log to Bowl - 2 Day Class

In this two day course, students will learn how to turn a small wooden bowl and a natural edge bowl from green wood.Students will go through the process of selecting, preparing, and mounting the wood on the lathe, discuss tool selection/use and sharpening, shaping/turning of the outside/inside, sanding/finishing and drying of green wood.

Skills Toolbox

• Proper turning technique for bowl turning

• Use of bowl turning tools, and how to sharpen them

• How to cure and handle green wood for turning

Tool Clearance

• Will not be cleared to use any Idea Foundry tools

• Feel free bring if you have: Roughing, Spindle & Bowl Gouges, Paring Tool, Scraper & Skew. Otherwise, these tools are provided in the classroom.

Plan Your VisitAll materials and safety equipment supplied.  Closed-toed shoes, long sleeved shirts, natural fibers (cotton, denim, linen), with long hair pulled back. Plan to arrive for class about 10-15 min early and check in at the front desk. Our main entrance is on State Street, with parking in the Gravity garage (access on State St across from Lucas St), validation for Gravity Garage included in your class price. Please bring the ticket from the garage with you.
